Wildland fire crews have many difficulties to tend with when responding to disasters, several of them are the combination of work rest rules, and the distance needed for wildland fire crews to travel. This combination has dramatically increased the time needed for the crews to travel from their home base to where their services are needed. Fire crews have indicated to DARTS management, it has taken them up to 3 days to travel to California from Colorado. Prior to the work/rest rules it would normally be a one day event. So because of the need for increased safety, the response time for fire crews has increased considerably. DARTS will lessen this response time by days, and not conflict with wildland fire crews work/rest rules, and be able to transport the crews for a cost far beneath any other option.
